We’re about ready to complete construction on a 20,000-cubit-foot walk-in freezer, one of several expansion phases that will benefit many of our 1,000-plus convenience store and other retail customers.  Total investment will be in the neighborhood of $250,000.

It was clear that we couldn’t operate at the level we want with the amount of freezer space we had.  With our membership with grocery wholesaler AWG and our new Blue Bunny Ice Cream program, we had to make this investment for our own good and the good of our customers.

Planning for the freezer began in November, and the unit will be up and running shortly, following the arrival this coming Monday, April 9, of the pre-fabricated walls.

Construction that includes a special three-layer concrete and Styrofoam foundation and extensive electrical work has taken about two months.  Nicely Electric and Daniel Brothers Construction were among the local contractors we hired.

The freezer will replace several much smaller freezers that we’ll convert into basic refrigeration units.  This will be advantageous as we continue to expand our food-service programs.

Attached to the 50,000-square-foot warehouse, one of five warehouses we operate, the freezer will also benefit the local community with the creation of jobs to manage the increased stock and to oversee the shipment of product.

This project is another example of improving our facilities and service in order to help our customers improve.
